The Tennessee ThunderCats, a professional indoor football team, began their first season on April 13, 2001 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. The team played in the Indoor Professional Football League (IPFL) that year, and went on to win the IPFL championship. The following seasons, 2002 and 2003, the ThunderCats played in the National Indoor Football League (NIFL) as the Tennessee Riverhawks before moving to Greenville, South Carolina
