Friendly’s Ice Cream Sign—VERY RARE!

A RARE and SIGNIFICANT piece of collectible ice cream memorabilia.
Arguably among the most rare of all vintage ice cream signage, this Friendly’s Ice Cream sign used to rotate to display available flavors. All four sides contain 7 interchangeable flavor slats, and all are original. An additional 12-15 slats come with the sign.
Most of these signs were destroyed or sent to landfills after Friendly’s underwent a remodel and switched over to digital signage. At it’s peak, there were 500 Friendly’s Restaurants, at one per restaurant, it is reasonable to estimate that no fewer than 50-75% of these signs no longer exist, leaving at most 125-250 survivors. But, given company directives to dispose of these signs, that number is likely to be significantly lower—perhaps even in the single digits or low double-digits.
There is damage to the gold top, as shown, and the ‘weathervane’ is damaged as well, as shown.
